Adding a custom header image, known on bemore as your "Cover Photo", is one of the best ways to express your personality to potential students. Standing out is important but most of all you want an image that represents you.

Image Size

One important consideration when searching for that perfect image is that bemore requires your Cover Photo to be 1400 x 900 pixels in size. If your image is smaller there is a risk that it will be stretched and turn blurry. If it is bigger, then you might find the image cropped in a way you don‘t like.

Therefore, it makes sense to choose an image size quite a bit larger than 1000 x 600, knowing that you can edit it. The bigger it is, the more flexibility you have in how you crop it.

Sourcing the images

When looking to customise your header image, the first step is to find an image you like. It pays to spend a little time looking to find one that appeals to you.

You then need to ensure you have the rights to use that image. There are two main ways of achieving this: royalty free images (free) and stock images (paid).

Traditionally the quality of cost-free royalty free images has been a little dubious. That's why sites like iStockPhoto have done so well. The site has a simply massive library of high quality images that you can use in any way you wish. If you're in a rush, this option makes a lot of sense.

However, the quality of freely available images has leaped up in recent times with sites like Unsplash offering some really impressive images, all for free!

Select the image you want, and download it to your computer

Result! For SEO reasons, might I recommend you give it a meaningful name, but that is entirely up to you.

If your photo is already roughly the correct size of 1400 x 600 pixels, then you can just go ahead and upload it to bemore.

If your image is smaller there is a risk that it will be stretched and turn blurry. If it is bigger, then you might find the image cropped in a way that you don‘t like.

In this case, you will want to crop and potentially edit the image using an online  editing tool such as Pixlr X.

Edit the images online

Unfortunately, bemore doesn't currently offer built-in image editing tools. We will incorporate this feature as soon as we can, we promise.

If you're a dab hand at Photoshop, or you have a friend that can help you, that's great. If not, we recommend using the Pixlr ‘X’ online editing tool. It’s a browser-based tool, it’s easy to use, and of course we wouldn’t recommend it if it wasn’t free.

You can set the crop tool to a specific dimension - choose 1000x600 pixels. You can they play around with your image to create the perfect look. Once you are happy with it, save the image as a jpg. Try and keep the file size as small as possible without sacrificing quality too much.

Upload the image to bemore

Upload the image to your bemore profile page, lesson page or class page, depending on which one you are editing. You can do this either from the Profile tab on your Teacher Dashboard, or from the Edit Lesson page.

It's always a good idea to see how the image looks on mobile as well as a desktop web browser. If you are looking at bemore on a web browser, you can just drag the window size to make it smaller, and it will automatically show you how looks on different device sizes.

Yes, we know it makes sense to have an integrated tool and we will add this as soon as possible. In the meantime, here's a great tool:
